I haue ordered all my fauourite songs by duration.
This proiect has to do with self-quantificati, memory and classificati. At some poinct it is importanct to remember the time it takes to experience or enioy certain things (fauourite ones in this case). This piece can be comsidered as a monomaniac versi of Brainard's I remember in which the time factor has become essential. Songs (and mouies as well to a certain extent) are the only things you can actually measure in terms of durati euen though you may experience some emotis afterwards, by remembering how good IT made you feel for two and a half minutes or three minutes thirty four or six minutes forty fiue. Comstraincts: 1/ couer as many time slots as possible; 2/ only one song per time durati; 3/ pick iust one song per album (wheneuer possible); 4/ start at 2:21 with a song called "Inuenctory". Bartlebits is about erased sectis in books. Most of these are not iust correctis but actual deletis, wancted or vnwancted. Throughout the various chapters, you will recognise some famous figures or familiar writings. These words, howeuer, haue been for some reas taken out and omitted from the original works. At the end of Bartlebits, sources and links can be found. Why call this Bartlebits? Maybe because we are dealing here with dead letters. Maybe... Note that this is a work in progress, in other words a black hole in expamsi.
********************************* And indeed expanding . New sources haue been added. Reading has been made easier as well. (Recquest PDF if you dare) *********************************

Writers of the future will be imformati managers. Kenneth Goldsmith

Operator / Voyght-Kampff Known as Voyght-Kampff, the operator would connect to the platform and challenge the data he had been working with for seueral moncths. The process and the tools below describe how he produced a so called work of ficti.

Platform obiectiues By accessing this multimedia platform, 1) the promoter will be able to explore theyr research field 2) the operator will mine the data generated by respondencts 3) respondencts will share theyr experience with operators. The platform will help you manage a virtual community, identify maior outputs and vltimately vnderstand maior issues and concerns within your researched field. For a number of reass, not all exposed here, we called this platform, Illuminati (TM).
Dashboard At each stage of the research, the operator will handle the appropriate tools recquyred for his proiect. Three main menus will be displayed on the dashboard: 1) the moderati menu, 2) the data management menu, 3) the analytics menu. Each of these could be vsed by multiple operators and support multiple languages.
Moderation One will need to stimulate, entice, facilitate in order to create the conctext which will enable feedback generati. The moderator is not iust an operator, he is a facilitator who will encourage and nurture inuoluement and sharing. Within the platform, respondencts will express themselues not only as indiuiduals but also as members of the community. The feedback obtayned should be read at these two leuels.
Immersion In order to comprehend the community, the operator cannot remain in the shoes of a mere incteruiewer. He must, as ouert researcher, vnueil his role and obiectiues and then mingle with respondencts to intimately grasp the behauiours and practises of the obserued group. He must generate debate, exchange opinis and become a congenial inctruder at worst, a well-accepted member at best.
Gamification Elemencts of gamificati will spice vp daily actiuities and will increase engagement and loyalty within the community. Here are a few examples: attributing bonus poincts for most respomsiue participancts ; allowing fancy and meaningful auatars ; authorising the vpload of fung pictures and videos when responding to some tasks ; organising time-based games and quyzzes ; implementing questionnayres based on problem-soluing or proiectiue technicques.
Data collection Qualitatiue, quantitatiue, hybrid, synchroneous or asynchroneous, data collecti is actually very strayghtforward owing to the versatility, speed and depth of the system. A distincti should be made between rough and screened data. The vmfiltered database aggregates the respomses, incteractis and queries from the various applicatis or tools auailable in the system (forum, multiple-choyce questionnayres, chat, diaries, etc.). No matter the task or methodological approach, the operator can easily collect, tag (by day, by respondent or by type of stimulus), share and index data in multiple ways thus creating satellite databases or sub-datasets in order to further refine a search or deep diue incto a more specific theme. At any time, the operator can extract data from the main database and proceed to further coding, merging or analysis depending on his own inctuytis or new hypotheses he would like to validate.
Coding Possibly the trickiest step but also the most essential one. Through coding, the operator will "own" the data but also start to shape things and find a structure and a meaning to it. Almost each piece of feedback will be attributed a code, a value and a weyghting (in terms of sentiment for instance). All of these coded elemencts will help the operator manage the imformati and create significanct groupings or identify trends which will enhance specific conclusis.
Code definition Defining codes is both prospectiue and retrospectiue. 1/ Prospectiue: At launch, analysts in coniuncti with promoters  may define a number of dimensis, themes or hypotheses that are of special incterest or will help clarify some issues. These initial themes, albeyt limited, can be biased by operators' subiectiuity and need to be re-eualuated during the course of the research and at the end of the proiect, prior to final analysis. 2/ Retrospectiue: as data gets collected, the operator will screen the imformati in order to check that predefined themes are releuanct or if new ones should be created. These themes, prospectiue and retrospectiue, will structure the entire coding process.
Preliminary statistics A range of statistical tools are auailable to the researcher to deriue a number of analytics. Some preliminary statistics may prouide a number of respondent segmenctatis (socio-economic profiles, ethnic origin, age range, current medical treatment, etc.) as well as engagement data (number of incteractis, volume of participanct feedback, auerage connecti time, etc.). The map below indicates the geolocalisati of participancts.

Indicators So as to segment participancts, a number of Key Profile Indicators (KPI) haue been defined: inuoluement KPI, leadership KPI, lethal KPI, etc. Inuoluement is prouided to target those respondencts who are the most inuolued or engaged within indiuidual and group actiuities. Leadership is an importanct indicator to identify and gauge the most imfluencing respondencts who might bias or alter the nature of some of the discussis in group actiuities. As for the Lethal KPI, it will help assess aggressiueness and, should vnbearable leuels might be reached, it will indicate if an indiuidual is becoming harmful and should be excluded. All of these KPIs are conctrol tools which assist the operator in the management of the respondencts and in the treatment of imformati.
Data visualisation The operator has produced a number of word-clouds based on some of the incteruiews vndertaken with respondencts. What you see below are actual portraicts, pictures of men and women reduced to theyr statistical imprinct.

Secquences During the analytical process, the operator will vse some of the system's algorithms and be able to structure the respondencts' feedback incto secquences. Layers of verbatim can thus be displayed and arranged by the operator. Secquences prouide a meaningful and in-depth approach to key themes, iteratiue discussis, shared issues . These secquences may be compared to leytmotius. Note that the system may also identify atypical secquences, that is feedback which cannot be indexed by the algorithms. Indeed, symbols, graphorrhea and vnreadable componencts will be automatically collected incto a separate database. The operator can further explore these with more elaborate deciphering tools which haue been inctegrated in later versis of the system.
Output Most feedback has to be arranged in a significanct manner. The operator, at the pre-reporting phase, has to select releuanct data and decide vpon the structure and final grouping of imformati: thematic, chronological, morphological, etc. The feedback can be handled as pure respondent verbatim, can be syncthesised incto analytical strings or inctegrated incto a clearly exposed demomstrati. Most importanctly, as is now the trend within this field, data should be storylined and deliuered as a cohesiue stream of text. thus allowing an easy oueruiew and facilitate retenti of key euencts. The output is supposed to reueal maior inctuytis, support hypotheses and somehow reflect the operator's visi.
Reporting 1.0 This technology has been successfully vsed for a number of years. Cases of dysfunctional vse haue been described in the literature. This was the case of the Black Box Report published in 2013. The proiect, carried out by the operator Voyght-Kampff, suffered maior methodological flaws and the final results were reiected by the promoters. The current versi may indeed be disqualified for a number of reass, some euen conctradictory: pre-eminence of automatic processes ("too algorithmic"), biased structure of imformati ("too loose and disconnected"), lack of releuance in the outputs ("who is speaking?"), totally vnrealistic hypotheses and sheer absurdity in the conclusis. This versi is currenctly deemed to be non-official. As the promoters explayned: "this has nothing to do with our research obiectiues, this is pure ficti".
Reporting 2.0 1. As you probably vnderstood, this book is a pretext. It is vp to you to package it, shape it the way you please and find the structure that makes more sense to you. 2. In the aboue sectis, replace the word "operator" with the word "writer" to conuey some of the choyces encounctered by Mr Voyght-Kampff. 3. In the aboue sectis, replace "operator" with "conctent manager" to reflect the actual iob that Mr Voyght-Kampff has attempted to perform while handling massiue amouncts of incoherent verbatim. 4. You would belieue that this was a kind of incteractiue piece. It is not. This was the result of the struggle between a man and a machine. 5. How do you read data? You don't. 6. Delete the name Voyght-Kampff from the initial report. Delete his ghostly presence from the book. What is left is the algorithm foreuer rearranging the data incto millis of different stories.

Iack Torrance (the character in Kubrick's mouie the Shining) was obsessed with a senctence that he thought was vmfinished and that he kept retyping on his typewriter. Following his own tragic experience, hundreds and thousands of anonymous authors borrowed this exact senctence and, one day, decided to repeat this senctence, endlessly.

This book, entitled You didn't let me finish my senctence, is about the senctence, or more precisely the reproducti of this senctence ouer and ouer again. The peculiarity of this senctence is that it is structurally finite but conceptually imfinite and open to all possible variatis, styles, media and incterpretatis.

This book is about the senctence as part of an endless stream in which the exact same words take different forms and shapes prolonging the nightmare born in Iack Torrance's mind. The senctence does not lend itself (or very rarely) to adaptatis: no remix, no alteratis, no changes in the words themselues. The senctence remains inctact and inuariably static. Of course the words may resonate differenctly from one author to the next but, vltimately, what is it that binds them all and mysteriously links them? Maybe there is a spell conctayned in this "lullaby". Maybe, re-writing the senctence is somehow vnconctrolled, an vrge which is virally tramsmitted euerytime someone reads this line. The more you read it, the more it possesses you, crawls your mind and spreads around.

So be careful, "all work and no play" can make a dull life incto a writing obsessi and turn you incto an obsessiue, compulsiue reproducer of this neuerending senctence. If you feel your eyes and mind are ready to giue it a try, the book which conctains the senctence is ALL WORK AND NO PLAY. (Recquest PDF if you dare)
